Bring Back Layaway! (And Stay Out of Debt?)

[this is good]

Hey, everyone is stealing my plan to move to a yurt in Mongolia!! It's gonna be too crowded. You know, Canada has a lot of empty space. and they've got moose.

I saw a piece on TV a couple weeks ago about layaway, how it's coming back. Whatever happens, I hope people become a little more responsible when it comes to living withing their means when this big economic clusterfunk is done.

I remember after my mom went back to work, nursing, buying herself a mink coat on layaway. She and my dad set a very good example about not spending beyond your means.

I'm pessimistic that layaway would catch on very much now. People want instant gratification in this century.

Layaway is a very good thing. I wonder how much Wal-Mart and those who no longer have it will be hurt in the current economy.
We have been seeing these ads too! My mom used to do this for larger Xmas items all the time. I guess old is new again in bad economic times! A friend of mine just told me this morning he saw and ad from Target advertising their layaway plan.

Good for KMart and Target and all the companies that have LayAway Plans - I remember using this for a special purchase that I really wanted: a Hi fi System, when I was in Middle School, and although it seemed to take forever, I remember being very pround of the fact that I had paid it all off within a few months thanks to my paper route!

Thank you for giving a nice list of places that still do a layaway program - it will help this christmas!

I saw that ad the other day. Layaway was a big thing when I was younger. I think it's a great thing and I hope it catches on once again.

I had this very discussion with my mom last Friday. We saw the KMart ad during a morning show, which spurred the discussion. She said, "That's how we used to do Christmas for you kids [back in the late 70s/early 80s]... go to Sears and put everything on layway, pay it off, then take it home mid-December."

I don't know why, because I have no plans to put anything on layaway, but that KMart commercial just makes me feel good.
