Movie Quotes - A Guessing Game

Comments

[this is good]

I am guessing on a couple of these:

7. Resevoir Dogs.

14. Donnie Darko

17. Princess Bride.

19. Casino Royale

21. Terminator (?)

22. Star Wars (the very first one.)

28. Grosse Pointe Blank.

30. Dark Knight (?).

I see you love words. Nice list.

2. Punch drunk love
14 is killing me because I've seen this movie in the last month...and can't place it.
16 Back to the future 2?
17 The Princess Bride
20 Napoleon Dynamite
21 The Matrix
22. Star Wars ( a new hope)
25. My favorite Say Anything quote.
27 Kill Bill
30. I couldn't place this...I knew I knew it. I was going to guess Seven, but then it hit me. The Dark Knight.

whoa. these are seriously hard.

13. High Fidelity

17. Princess Bride. <3<3<3<3<3<3<3

18. One flew over the cuckoo's nest (?)

19. Casino Royale

21, The Matrix.

there are a couple that resonate but I cant' place them...

4, I believe, is Ronin. Perhaps I am wrong.

5. The Usual Suspects

6. American Beauty
Correct on all but #21...Ginger Sister got that one...
9. Four Rooms

10. Sin City

12. Unforgiven
All the ones you put names to are right...Ancora Impara got #14 (Donnie Darko). I'll give the Kill Bill: Vol. 2 to you since it has the same name, even though you didn't specify it was the second of the two films...
15. Kill Bill Part I
13, 17, 19, and 21 are right...Good attempt at a guess on 18, but that's not the film...
Nicely done, sir. All 7 of your guesses so far are correct.

5) Usual Suspects

10) Sin City

13) High Fidelity

14) some Kevin Smith movie (Jay and Silent Bob?)

21) Terminator (3?), oops, Yes I see now it's The Matrix

22) Star Wars

25) Say Anything

27) Kill Bill

28) Grosse Pointe Blank

Trying to fill in the blanks. #18 is SO familiar to me, it's killing me.
[this is good]

Cool idea---wow, this could turn into a real time killer.

My guesses for just a few:

8-Garden State

10-Sin City

15 Kill Bill

16 Back to the Future--which one--no clue

20-Napolean Dynamite

25-Say Anything

Yes to all but #14...it got guessed already though - Donnie Darko.
I think 18 is Twelve Monkeys.
You're right on #8! (And the others, too)
Yes! (And thanks for helping Kevin to stop wracking his brain on that one)

haha, I didn't even see that, just checked if anyone guessed it. I have only seen that movie once and it was a few months ago.

*pats self on back*

some of the others seem like I should know em...

like, 1, 3, 23 and 26. most of the leftovers....haha

29. Wild guess: Boondock Saints.
Dammit. I've seen 12 Monkeys, but only once.

1 has been killing me, because I knew that I knew it. It finally came to me:

The Fifth Element. One of the all-time great bad movies.

23. Being John Malkovich?
24. Dark City, maybe.
Yep, yep, yep! Always good for a view on a rainy weekend afternoon!
Correct on on both 23 and 24!
No, 29 isn't Boondock Saints...I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't actually seen that yet, and definitely need to.
11-Good Will Hunting--is that the name? doesn't look right
The whole "Brad Pitt is a crazy-sane-crazy person" totally steals the show in the middle of the movie. Probably why I decided to use that quote instead of one of the others...
I wouldn't hurry: I hate that goddamned movie.
You nailed #11. This might have been hard because it's only about 1/2 of Robin Williams' monologue. I had to cut it down because it would have been waaay too long for this post, but I think the ending would have given more hints.
Oh I hated that movie too, Willem Dafoe (who I love) was HORRIBLE and totally not saleable (? i don't think I used that right) as a gay guy. I didn't even see the whole thing and I hated it. and I think you are the only other person I've encountered who feels the same. (whew, I was thinking I should give it another shot....)
Don't listen to Kevin about Boondock Saints. If The Fifth Element is on your all-time great bad movie list, then Boondock Saints should be on your all-time great terrible movie list. Bad over the top acting, with an especially awful performance by Willem Dafoe, a horrible script, cartoon violence. It's the cinematic equivalent of a really bad highway accident. You will be forced to slow your car down to look. Hating this movie is the easy way out.
Is 29 Pulp Fiction???
You intrigue me...I may have to try to rent this over Thanksgiving now. I'll make sure not to include my family though - they already think I have the worst taste/luck in picking movies for us all to watch.
No, not Pulp Fiction...
3. Twelve angry men.
29. Point Break?
Right-o! I actually didn't see 12 Angry Men until about 3-4 years ago, but it is definitely on my top 10 favorite movies list.
arrrrrrrrghhh. I know I know #29 and now it will drive me nuts.
No, not Point Break, either. I'm thinking maybe my Vox neighborhood didn't bother to see this one when it came out, or else didn't like it and put a mental block on dialog like this.
I cheated on 29 and now I am kicking myself. I should have so totally known that one.
26. Brazil

#29---O Brother Where Art Thou????

I saw it in the theatre opening day and then bought it on DVD.

looks like I was wrong on 26.

gosh, is 29 Alien?Aliens?
29. The Road to Perdition? Only saw it once and hated it, but who knows?
Closer, but #26 is more recent.
Not quite, although looking back, the dialects of the two movies are very similar. Other than that though, they're about as different as can be...
Nope, not yet on #29!
ok is 29 Serenity?
I read over the cadences, and it sounds very much like Captain Mal.
I was ambivalent towards The Road to Perdition, but that's not it either.

AAAAAAAGGGH! I can hear it in a southern, or Birtish or Aussie accent, polite and genteel..... or else Samuel L. Jackson. (obviously, based on my guesses....)

and 26 is driving me crazy too because I think I've seen that recently as well.

Yes! It's a tough quote because it's hard to get his "voice" from the words on the page...but once you know what it is, it really stands out.
I really debated putting this movie into mine. Unfortunately I kept pulling up quotes from the show that I liked more. So Kudos to you for sticking in some Whedon!

what?! I've never seen that movie. you're wrong. :-P

(i'm a dope)

We're all counting on you to get #26, cranky! You're our only hope! (And no, that's not a clue to the movie)
Dang, all the ones I know (6, 11, 16, 17, 22) have all been guessed!!
26: Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind.

I win.
of the*, sorry.
We have a winnah! Thanks for wrapping up the contest Jenessa!
Yeah, we had a bunch of eager (and gifted) quote-solvers this time around. Don't worry though, I'll probably do this kind of post again sometime in the next few weeks with entirely different movies& quotes!
Send 'em over to my place. Although I'll be incommunicado for the rest of the day.
Ohhhh, see, I would have gotten 26 if I wasn't such a bum last week, they played it at my local theater. poo. But yay to Jenessa!
