It shouldn't be "....Death and Taxes", it should be "Death TO Taxes!".

Although this year, it seems I am in for a surprise - I just got word from my ~~accountant~~ mother¹ that I'm getting about a $3500 Federal tax refund and a $700 state tax refund this year. I guess having another kid has paid off in the short run.²

I guess the only problem is I'm not exactly sure how much to adjust my withholdings for next year so I'm not leaving Uncle Sam with such a big interest-free loan.

¹Aren't I the luckiest guy to have a CPA for a mom? Seriously, I could do my own taxes, but it's nice just to send off a copy of all my tax docs and VERY nice that she doesn't even charge me for doing them!
²I'm not going to even think about how much money I'm going to have to spend on her in the long run. Just leave me to my delusions that I've got some extra money right now, okay?

wow you are lucky all the way around. A new baby girl, a CPA for a mom, and a nice refund.

Oh, those cute little tax deductions! Aren't they the sweetest?! ;) Cost more in the long-run, but definitely worth it (most days).

I always liked the big refunds, but was thoroughly annoyed by them at the same time, thinking of how much they would have translated into each paycheck. On the other hand, there was that chunk of change we wouldn't have had. Some years we got it right, some not, but THIS year, we 'lost' a daughter to the workforce, one to marriage, and a son to turning 17. Fortunately we realized what was happening last May, so the damages are 'only' a check for $300 to the IRS, but it's the first time we've ever paid beyond our withholding. Talk about traumatic! Adjusting the withholding has taken on a whole new meaning for us. (Can I borrow your mom?)

i let steve take care of all that stuff. hehehe. he's no CPA, but he gets the job done. hehe.

it's no wonder people start pimping out their kids to be pop stars and actors...though I guess rehab and tabloids and trips to the ER aren't too much fun either... :-P
