And because I blanked out on more tunes, here's one whose only connection to this mp3eme is that they use the word "spell" in it, but in an entirely different meaning. Oh, yeah, and they say the name "Lee" a total of 73 times in the song. (I counted.) Pretty talented for a 64-second song!
You have to listen to the lyrics to fully get the mp3eme connection, but I think it's worth it.
A bit of trivia - the narration part in this song is done by Mark Z. Danielewski, author of House of Leaves
and brother of Poe (Ann Danielewski). Both Poe and Danielewski
reference each others' works heavily in their own work, and Poe has
described her album Haunted and her brother's book as "parallax views of the same story".
And in honor of my wife, who braved the rain to go to a high school football game tonight....
For some people, jumping someone else's train seems to be the only game in town (man, I should have put this on the Calliope, too!)
I think it's about time to stop this game. I'm sure you're ready for me to stop, too.
Anyway, I'm in the middle of re-rating some tracks in my library and came across one that I hadn't heard in a long time. It is definitely one of the more interesting tracks by Seven Mary Three. It's not in their typical style, but I enjoy it. The drum backbeat provides a nice counterpoint to the lyrics and the feeling of futility they seem to generate. I give it 4 stars (out of 5) in my book. If I had a book.
Normally I think The Bloodhound Gang is a little overproduced for the amount of quality content they actually have in their songs, but this one always brought a smile to my face when I heard it. And it fits both mp3emes!
First, it's damn hard to have a good blues band without a harp player:
Next, the song that made me buy my first Aerosmith album, way back when. Unfortunately, I've since lost my copy of it, but I've recovered the track via Big Ones:
However, in its place, I do have a few tunes for you....feel the power...
I've always like this tune...glad I could finally use it for a mp3eme.
Not my favorite tune off the album, but a little Luscious Jackson goes a long way towards making my day a good one.
Finally, a double-shot of Bad Religion to power down by...the first is an obvious fit - the second one takes a little listening to the lyrics to get how the power theme fits in...
